How Mentor makes money

It's important for us to share how we earn money. You can learn more on our Advertiser Disclosure.

Does checking my rate impact my credit score?

No. Checking your rate will not impact your credit score. This is called a "soft credit check," and many lenders will show you a new interest rate within 2-3 minutes with no impact to your credit score. This is especially helpful for a student loan, student loan refinancing or a personal loan, for example. If you're happy with your new rate, you can complete an application. You can check your rate with multiple lenders, since a soft credit check with multiple lenders within a short time frame won't impact your credit score. If you decide to apply for a loan, the lender will conduct a hard credit inquiry, which will impact your credit score. Applying to multiple lenders for student loan refinancing, for example, in a short time frame typically doesn’t affect most credit scores. This is because multiple hard credit inquiries are generally counted as one inquiry. This allows you to find the best lender and loan terms for you.

How do I refinance my loan or apply for a new loan?

With Mentor, it's easy to compare rates and lenders quickly.

Private Student Loans: compare rates and lenders for private student loans.
